Monday 21st July

Monday 21st July is an important day for Moy Villa as we host the official opening of our Club facilities by officials of the FAI, including Chief Executive John Delaney, President David Blood and former internationals Packie Bonner and Ray Houghton.  We invite all Moy Villa Club members, players, supporters, parents and people from the local community to be with us on this occasion. This is a chance to recognise the unprecedented development that has happened in the Club in the last few years, both on and off the pitch.

While Moy Villa was formed in 1992, it is over the last few years that, with great community support, our small Club has taken on the development of the astro-pitch and the changing facilities, complete with home and away rooms, showers and a ref’s room. These facilities have undoubtedly made sport much more accessible in the area.

Hand in hand with the new facilities, the creation of a Youths section in the Club has moved from being just a dream a short few years ago, to now being a fantastic reality. Saturday mornings in Attymass now get off to a noisy and energetic start with training for the youngest children, followed by Under 12s & 14s, while our senior team continues to compete in Division 1 of the Mayo League.

These developments don’t just happen on their own as we know and the official opening will be a chance to recognise the volunteer and community effort in developing the Club so that, in particular, the children of the area have the healthy and enjoyable activities that are so important these days.

Alongside the official opening on Mon 21st, there will be a football blitz for our underage players. Refreshments will be available for all.

As this is happening on a Monday, we will do all we can to assist with children attending the official opening and football blitz. We need the children to be at the pitch before 12 noon and we expect the whole day’s events to last about 3 hours. We hope parents can co-ordinate dropping children off and collecting them. If there are particular difficulties in this regard, please contact the coaches, as we will have some lifts available, including between Attymass and Ballina.

Of course the help of any available parents/adults would also be gratefully received on the day.

For the football blitz, children must bring footwear for both the grass pitch and the astro-pitch.

On Sunday 6th July, Moy Villa had a sponsored cycle for our Youths section. We have run this event for the last several years and it has always been a great fun occasion, touring the Attymass area, with a well-deserved break for refreshments along the way.

It is also an important fundraiser for the Club, with over €1,000 raised that will go back to our Youths section. As can be seen from the pictures, the turnout of children of all ages made the event really worthwhile.

Not even the occasional bit of ‘soft weather’ could dampen the spirits of those taking part, including the many adults who accompanied the children both on bikes and in cars.  As somebody said on the day: “it’s far better than sitting in on a Sunday afternoon”.

The day finished, as appropriate, with a monster game on the astro-pitch.

Don’t worry if you missed this year’s cycle, there’s always next year - get that bike out of the shed and join in! Again, thanks to the children, those who sponsored us and the adults who helped out on the day to make it such an enjoyable event.
